17 Italian companies to join UCIMA collective at Propak East Africa

East Africa’s flagship exhibition will be back from 14 to 16 March.

The stage is set for the 2023 edition of Propak East Africa, the most important annual trade fair for the packaging, processing, plastics and printing industries in East Africa which will be held from 14 to 16 March in the Sarit Exhibition Centre in Nairobi, Kenya. A large number of Italian companies will be present at the show as part of a collective organised by Ucima in cooperation with the Italian Trade Agency ITA. This year the Italian pavilion will be much larger than at past editions of the show and will occupy a total floor space of 255 square metres.

A total of 17 leading Italian companies will be exhibiting as part of the collective: A. Due di Squeri Donato & C., Akomag, Bertuzzi, Borghi, Cavanna, Galdi, Goglio, Gorreri, Ica, Ipi, Mp Inox, Pigo, R. Bardi, Smi, Tecno Pack, Tropical Food Machinery and Universal Pack.

The Italian pavilion will also feature a lounge and B2B meeting area where member companies and visitors will be able to receive support and information as well as organise international meetings.

This strong Italian presence testifies to the importance of the event in a rapidly growing market. Kenya is already the largest economy in the eastern region of Sub-Saharan Africa and is gradually emerging as the fourth largest economy in Sub-Saharan Africa as a whole after Nigeria, South Africa and Angola. In 2021, Kenya imported packaging machinery worth a total of €31.2 million, with Italy ranking as the second most important trading partner after China with a 19.5% share of total imports. This upward trend continued during the first part of last year. In the first five months of 2022, the value of Italian packaging machinery exports to Kenya doubled compared to the same period in 2021 to reach €3.9 million.

“Propak East Africa is a fast-growing exhibition that reflects the rapid growth of the country that hosts it,” commented Ucima Chairman Riccardo Cavanna. “We are delighted to contribute to this growth, with many Italian companies sure to play a leading role with their products and solutions”.
