The Italian packaging machinery industry will take centre stage at ProPak Africa and ProPak Vietnam.
A busy month lies ahead for UCIMA, the Italian Packaging Machinery Manufacturers’ Association, which is organising Italian group stands at two major international trade fairs. The first is ProPak Africa in Johannesburg, South Africa from 11 to 14 March and the second ProPak Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City from 18 to 20 March.
Ten companies will be taking part in the Italian pavilion at the South African exhibition, which showcases the latest technologies for packaging, processing, printing and plastics: Ballestra, Cavanna, Comat Technologies, Fraugroup, Ipi, Itatools, Pigo, Rossi Ingegneria Alimentare, Sarp and Torq Packaging.
In 2023, South Africa imported packaging machinery worth a total of €202 million, primarily from Germany and Italy. Italy was the second-largest exporter with a 29.9% market share and a total export volume of €60 million, while South Africa ranked as Italy’s 26th-largest export destination. In the first nine months of 2024, South African imports saw an 8.6% decline compared to the same period in 2023, while Italy maintained its second-place position behind Germany.
The Italian companies participating in ProPak Vietnam in Ho Chi Min City are: A.B.L., Agriflex, Bram-Cor, Camozzi Automation, Cavanna, Cepi, Easysnap Technology, Fbr-Elpo, Goglio, Ica, No.El, Pigo, PND Costruzioni Elettromeccaniche, Rossi Ingegneria Alimentare, S.T.V. di Salati Giovanni & Co., Tropical Food Machinery and Union Officine Meccaniche.
In 2023, Vietnam imported €304 million worth of packaging machinery, mainly from China. Italy was the second largest exporter to Vietnam with an 11.7% market share (€35.6 million), while Vietnam ranked as Italy’s 42nd-largest export destination. In the first nine months of 2024, Vietnam’s imports surged by 31% compared to the same period in 2023, with Italy dropping to third place behind China and Germany.
